Louth Local Sports Partnership are offering Transition Year students the chance to participate in the Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership which will be delivered by tutors trained by the Irish Sports Council.
The syllabus is designed to develop generic leadership skills that can be applied to a variety of sports and/or recreational situations as well as contributing to the personal development of the learner.
The Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership is a practical award in which learners must demonstrate their ability to lead others in simple sport/activity.

The Level 1 award in Sports Leadership consists of six units of work including a one hour demonstration of leadership.
Breakdown of Learning:
- Plan, lead and review a sport/activity 12 hours
- Develop leadership skills 3 hours
- Lead activities that promote a healthy lifestyle 5 hours
- Fair play in sport 5 hours
- The role of the official 5 hours
- Opportunities in sport and recreation 3 hours
The award will take approximately 33 guided learning hours. The course is to be delivered one day a week over a six week period. We are offering two courses, one in Dundalk in Dundalk Sports Centre, Muirhevnamor, Dundalk and the other in The Coca Cola Community Building, Donore Road, Drogheda.
The cost will be €20 per student for the entire Level 1 award. There is a maximum mumber of 5 places per school initially until we assess the level of interest in the programme.
