GIRLS IN ACTION is a joint initiative funded by the HSE and Louth Local Sports Partnership . The programme is being offered to all secondary schools with female pupils in Co. Louth .
The Girls in Action programme provides a model of good practice which encourages young girls to participate in physical activity. The main aim of the programme is to provide more opportunities for teenage girls to participate in non-competitive activities. It is hoped that this experience will help girls develop a more positive attitude towards sport and physical activity.
The programme coordinators liaise directly with the participating shcools, the pupils and their teachers and the activity instructors. Activities offered to the girls include yoga, aerobics, zumba dance, fencing, kickboxing, circuits and self defence.
To celebrate the end of the fifth year of the project, Louth LSP and the HSE organised a Girls in Action activity day which took place in Ardee Community Centre in April 2013. The Activity Day was an International Dance Day where the girls learned dances from different countries. The event proved very enjoyable for all participants with new skills learned by all the girls involved.
If your school is interested in participating in the programme this year please return the expression of interest form by 23rd October 2015.
