Women in Sport Week

WIS Week takes place in March every year in line with International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8th encapsulating the week. IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The aim of Women in Sport Week is to:

  • Celebrate every woman and girl who plays, coaches, officiates, volunteers, works in, and leads on Women in Sport.
  • Promote and highlight the ongoing work of Sport Ireland, NGBs, LSPs, and other stakeholders and clubs on Women in Sport.
  • Highlight some of the programmes/initiatives funded by Sport Ireland Women in Sport Programme.

Sport Ireland, National Governing Bodies and Local Sports Partnerships across the country are ready to celebrate Women in Sport Week!

This week is all about providing more opportunities for ALL females to escape to the outdoors and try something new. For such a tiny island, there are so many incredible outdoor activities on offer and this should be celebrated to the fullest!

HER Outdoors Week will take place in August 2026 and what a week it will be!

European Week of Sport

European Week of Sport aims to promote sport and physical activity in countries across Europe.

The week is for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level. With a focus on grassroots initiatives, the aim is to inspire Europeans to #BeActive on a regular basis and create opportunities in peoples’ everyday lives to exercise more.

Being Active doesn’t mean having to be part of a sports club, a gym, running marathons or cycling across Europe. Being Active can be running around playing with your children, grabbing a walk with work colleagues on your lunch break, going outside and exploring the great outdoors – whatever gets you moving to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Being Active leads to:

  • Increased health benefits
  • Better mental health
  • Feeling great
  • Confidence
  • Increase in productivity

Sport Ireland and it’s partners are working hard to create plans for European Week of Sport 2025 which will take place from 23rd- 30th September.

If you club or group would like to run an event for European Week of Sport contact our Senior Sports Officer Ryan McShane Ryan.mcshane@louthcoco.ie.
