Dundalk Sports Centre, Louth County Council’s fully accessible and inclusive sports facility, has been awarded the Ireland Active, National Quality Standard for 2019.

Ireland Active, the representative body for the Leisure, Health & Fitness Industry,awarded Leisure, Fitness and Hotel Leisure facilities across the country at the National Quality Standard Awards (NQSA) at the annual awards ceremony on 16th November at Druids Glen Resort. 

The National Quality Standard Award (NQSA) is only awarded to facilities that meet or exceed the operational standards for leisure and fitness facilities across 250 criteria and is the most sought-after and respected accolade in the leisure and fitness industry. Dundalk Sports Centre was one of less than 100 facilities nationwide which received the award.

Speaking on the event, Conn McCluskey, CEO, Ireland Active said: “The awards serve to recognise the deserving recipients for their hard work in setting the bar fort he highest level of standards possible in their leisure, fitness and hotel leisure facilities, who play such a significant role in the health and well-being of the country. We are thrilled to acknowledge each facility for their outstanding accomplishments in the areas of safety, hygiene, customer engagement and human resources.”

Louth County Councils flagship sports & recreation facility on Tom Bellew Avenue in Dundalk, which was fully refurbished in 2017, is strategically located at the heart of the community close to major roads, schools, parks, clubs and DKIT. The centre boasts one of the largest in-door halls in the county, as well as 3 multi use playing surfaces and a full-sized outdoor FIFA One-Star All-Weather playing pitch. A wide range of facilities are available to facilitate the participation of people with disabilities in sport, fitness and physical activity in Louth.
