Louth LSP celebrating WIS Week!

Louth is gearing up to celebrate Women in Sport Week, with a full programme of events designed to inspire, empower, and support women and girls of all ages and abilities in getting active.

Women in Sport Week is an initiative delivered by Sport Ireland annually, and supported by its stakeholders: National Governing Bodies, Local Sports Partnerships, and other funded bodies. WIS Week takes place from March 2nd to 8th, 2026, with International Women’s Day (March 8th) encapsulated within the week. International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Women in Sport Week supports the objectives and actions outlined within Sport Ireland’s Policy on Women in Sport (WIS), in which Visibility is a key pillar.

First held in March 2021 and repeated every March since, WIS Week is a significant and successful week of celebration, promotion, and visibility of women’s sport and women in sport. The theme for this year is “Same Energy”. Despite progress, Women’s sport is still treated with less anticipation, less hype, and less cultural importance than men’s sport. People don’t decide on what matters based on ability, they decide based on how something is framed and so we need to frame women’s sport with energy. Same Energy challenges audiences to consider whether women’s sport is receiving the same anticipation, visibility and cultural importance as men’s sport.

The aim of Women in Sport Week is to:

· Celebrate every woman and girl who plays, coaches, officiates, volunteers, works in, and leads on Women in Sport.

· Promote and highlight the ongoing work of Sport Ireland, NGBs, LSPs, and other stakeholders and clubs on Women in Sport.

· Highlight some of the programmes/initiatives funded by Sport Ireland Women in Sport Programme
