Sports Inclusion and Disability Awareness Training Workshop

Louth LSP is delighted to offer Active Disability Ireland’s Sports Inclusion and Disability Awareness Training Workshop.

This is a free 90 minute interactive webinar, designed to create a greater awareness on the area of disability and how to include people with disabilities in sport and physical activity.

Topics include:

  1. Understanding Disability
  2. Perceptions
  3. Communication: Language and Etiquette
  4. Barriers to Participation
  5. Inclusion: Intro to TREE and The Inclusion Continuum

There are discussion elements throughout the training to ensure all participants have the opportunity to share your experience and time to ask questions. This workshop is aimed at people who are interested in taking the first step in making their activities inclusive.

Disability Inclusion Training

Disability Inclusion Training is a practical workshop designed to increase awareness, knowledge, and skills among coaches, volunteers, teachers, and community leaders so they can confidently include people with disabilities in sport and physical activity settings.

Who Is It For?

Disability Inclusion Training is ideal for:

  • Sports coaches and instructors
  • PE teachers and school staff
  • Community group leaders and youth workers
  • Leisure centre and gym staff
  • Anyone with an interest in making their activities more inclusive

No previous experience with disability sport is required.

What You Will Learn

Participants will gain practical insight and tools to support inclusive practice, including:

  • Understanding disability and how it can impact participation
  • Communication strategies and adapting activities
  • Inclusive coaching principles and activity modifications
  • Creating a welcoming and accessible environment
  • Case studies and real-life examples

The training is interactive and focuses on promoting inclusion through fun, activity-based learning.

Workshop Format

  • Duration: 3 hours (in-person or online).
  • Facilitator: Delivered by a qualified tutor trained through Active Disability Ireland.
  • Certification: All participants receive a certificate of attendance.

Autism in Sport Training

Autism in Sport Training is a practical and interactive workshop designed to help coaches, volunteers, teachers, and community leaders better understand autism and confidently support the inclusion of autistic participants in sport and physical activity.

This training is delivered through Active Disability Ireland in partnership with Local Sports Partnerships and National Governing Bodies.

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for anyone working or volunteering in physical activity, sport, education, or youth services, including:

  • Sports coaches and club volunteers
  • PE teachers and SNAs
  • Youth workers and community leaders
  • Leisure centre, camp, and event organisers
  • Anyone with an interest in inclusion

No previous experience with autism is necessary.

The training is interactive and focuses on promoting inclusion through fun, activity-based learning.

Course Objectives

Participants will gain:

  • A greater understanding of autism and neurodiversity
  • Practical strategies for communication and behaviour support
  • Tips for adapting sports activities to meet individual needs
