Walking for All, in partnership with Age Friendly Louth, successfully delivered two vibrant community walking events in May as part of Bealtaine 2026 celebrations. The initiative brought together participants from across the county, highlighting the importance of physical activity, social connection, and inclusive community engagement.
The first event took place on 20th May in Cooley, in collaboration with Cooley Connect Well. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Cooley Peninsula, participants enjoyed a relaxed and welcoming walk that encouraged conversation, connection, and the benefits of staying active in a supportive environment.
Building on the success of this event, a second Age Friendly / Walking for All walk was held in Tullyallen, generously hosted by Tullyallen Men’s Shed. Over 30 people attended the morning session, taking to the walking track and enjoying a positive and energetic atmosphere. The event provided an opportunity for individuals of all abilities to participate in light physical activity while strengthening community ties.
Participants were treated to refreshments provided by Age Friendly Louth, along with a selection of homemade baking, adding to the warm and inclusive spirit of the day. The events served as a strong example of how local initiatives can successfully promote health and wellbeing, particularly among older adults, while fostering a sense of belonging.
Walking for All expressed sincere thanks to all who attended and contributed to making both events such a success. Special recognition was given to the volunteers and organisers whose efforts ensured a welcoming environment for everyone involved.
Gratitude was also extended to Cooley Kickhams and Glen Emmets for providing access to their excellent walking facilities, which played a key role in enabling both events to take place in safe and accessible surroundings.
The Walking for All programme continues to offer regular opportunities for people to get involved in their local communities. Weekly walks are currently hosted by Tullyallen Men’s Shed every Tuesday and Friday at 9:30am, while Cooley Connect Well runs a weekly walk every Wednesday at 1pm. New participants are always encouraged to join, regardless of experience or fitness level.
Walking for All is supported through PEACEPLUS, a European Union programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), which aims to promote peace and prosperity across the region.
