Louth Local Sports Partnership, in partnership with Cooley Kickham’s GFC, is delighted to host a vibrant and inclusive community event to celebrate National Play Day 2026 on Saturday, July 11th from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
Taking place at the grounds of Cooley Kickham’s GFC, the event will bring together children, families and the wider community for a day of fun, laughter and active play.
National Play Day, supported by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, highlights the vital role of play in every child’s life. Play is recognised as essential for children’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development, helping to build confidence, creativity, resilience and strong social connections. It also supports children’s health and wellbeing by encouraging active lifestyles and positive engagement with their environment.
The Cooley event will feature a wide range of free, engaging activities designed to encourage children of all abilities to get involved in active and imaginative play. From games and sports to interactive play opportunities, there will be something for everyone to enjoy in a safe and welcoming environment.
Speaking ahead of the event, Barry Casey from Louth Local Sports Partnership said:
“National Play Day is an important opportunity to recognise the value of play in children’s lives. By creating safe, inclusive and fun environments where children can be active and social, we are supporting their development and wellbeing while also bringing communities together.”
The event also reflects the ongoing commitment of Louth LSP and its partners to support children and families, increase participation in physical activity, and promote the importance of play as a key part of healthy childhood development, in line with national policy priorities.
Families are encouraged to come along, get involved, and experience the joy of play together.
No booking is required and all are welcome.
